IDCC REACTION TO THE AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL BUDGET
INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONTRACTORS COMMUNITY (IDCC) WELCOMES FEDERAL BUDGET’S STEADFAST COMMITMENT TO OVERSEAS DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE
The International Development Contractors Community (IDCC) commends the Australian Government’s 2025–26 Federal Budget, which maintains Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) and its focus on the Asia Pacific region. While representing only a small fraction of Australia’s overall budget, it demonstrates that development investments remain central to the long-term security and prosperity of Australia and the region.
“By remaining steadfast in its commitment to the Asia Pacific region, this ODA commitment signals that building stability across the region is important to us. It’s a comparatively small share of federal spending, but it delivers big returns—creating goodwill, strengthening economies, and supporting healthier, more resilient communities,” said Nathan Hansford, CEO of the IDCC.
The IDCC is encouraged by the Government’s continued focus on strengthening ties within the Pacific and Southeast Asia. The increased aid budget demonstrates a clear commitment to assisting countries address urgent challenges such as climate resilience, gender and social inclusion, and health security. These priorities reflect goals outlined in the 2023 international development policy and the continuing priorities of our nearest neighbours.
IDCC members, in collaboration with other implementing partners, stand ready to translate these funding commitments into practical outcomes. Through our on-ground presence and expertise in designing and delivering both small and large-scale projects, IDCC members will help ensure that the additional ODA flows into visible, sustainable benefits for communities across the region.
“We are encouraged to see the Government raise ODA to over five billion dollars—especially at a time when other major donors are stepping back. Australia’s resolve to strengthen aid across the region is a vote of confidence in our collective future. By directing support to pressing issues, the Government is signalling that it remains a steadfast partner,” said IDCC Chair, Rachel Mason Nunn.
Australia’s leadership can be enhanced further through ambitious goals and innovative financing measures—helping establish new benchmarks for impact and influence across the region. By building on this momentum, Australia can pave the way for a more resilient and prosperous future.
